Softball drops pair at Eureka College

The Blackburn College softball team’s hopes for post-season play took a big hit when the Beavers lost a pair of contests to Eureka College Wednesday, April 24 in Eureka.

Blackburn wasted a great pitching performance by Amber Byrley in game one of the doubleheader as the game entered extra innings scoreless. Eureka pitcher Tomi Tapper held the Beavers to just two hits and then hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Red Devils the 1-0 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game win.

In game two, Mary Chamberlain hit a RBI double to knock in Briana Markel to give Blackburn a short lived 1-0 lead. Eureka answered with three runs in the bottom of the first inning and that would be all the runs they needed to complete the sweep as they bested the Beavers 5-2. Katelin Tickner had two hits for Blackburn. Chamberlain pitched well but took the loss on the mound.

The weather has refused to cooperate as the Beavers wind up their conference portion of the season. Blackburn was rained out Sunday against Westminster College.

Blackburn is 16-15 overall on the season and 5-7 in the SLIAC.
