Board hires new teachers, coaches
Carlinville Community Unit School District No. 1 Board of Education has finalized its staff for the 2013-14 school year, as four instuctors were hired at a special meeting Aug. 2.
In addition to the new teachers, the board also unanimously chose to hire two individuals to fill three coaching positions for varsity sports.
The new hires are:
• Timothy Johnson as a high school/intermediate school physical education teacher;
• Ashley Hayes as a high school science teacher;
• Jason Crowell as a high school agriculture teacher; and,
• Paige Vinyard as a primary school instructional aide.
The new district employees will take part in an orientation Thursday, Aug. 8, at the high school.
The first day of the 2013-14 school year is Wednesday, Aug. 14. Students will attend a full day of class.
Coaching staff finalized
Johnson will be coaching boys’ soccer this fall and wrestling later this school year. Hayes will coach girls soccer next spring.
Johnson and Hayes replace former boys and girls head soccer coach Tim Gould, who accepted a coaching position with Blackburn earlier this summer.
Kaitlyn Hammann was hired as an assistant high school volleyball coach. Hammann, who has worked for head coach Fran Struble as a volunteer assistant in the past, replaces Albert Dowland.
The next regularly scheduled school board meeting is set for Monday, Aug. 12, at 7 p.m.
