Blackburn College to present I Love You, You’re
Blackburn Performing Arts Department is proud to present the hilarious musical review, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change in Bothwell Auditorium, April 10-13. Show times will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday afternoon. Tickets are $5, student tickets are $1, and Blackburn students, faculty, and staff will be admitted free of charge. Tickets will be sold at the door half an hour before curtain time. There will be no advance sales.
I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change holds the record for the longest running musical review Off Broadway, running 12 years and racking up 5,003 performances.
This musical is a celebration of the mating game, taking on the truths and myths behind that contemporary conundrum know as ‘the relationship.’ Act I explores the journey from dating and waiting to love and marriage, while Act II reveals the agonies and triumphs of in-laws and newborns, trips in the family car and pick-up techniques of the geriatric set. This hilarious revue pays tribute to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at the portal of romance, to those who have dared to ask, ‘Say, what are you doing Saturday night?
When I Love You… was originally produced Off-Broadway, the cast consisted of only 4 actors playing over 60 roles. Blackburn’s production, directed by Theatre Professor Dr. Kate Roark, spreads those roles out among 12 students and community members.
The cast includes Blackburn students: Sawyer Burton of Grafton; Catherine Ward of Chicago; Brendon Lersch of Alton; Jordyn Smith of Hillsboro; Tavi Wallace, of Goshen, KY; Rebecca Finke of New Berlin; Patrick Benedict of Jerseyville; Paul Kline of Lewistown; and Ashley Egelhoff of Greenfield. Carlinville community members include Lisa Knight and Alex Boles.
The creative team includes Director, Kate Roark; Musical Director, Adrienne Stockley; and student choreographers Sawyer Burton and Patrick Benedict. Crew members include Blackburn students, Owen Meredith, Stephen Mitchell, Jay Maxson, Ashley Egelhoff, Rebecca Wales, Johnathan Edwards, John Guillotte, Alexandra Martin, Carly Morin, Taylor Mayberry, Jessica Kasinger, and Jack Homan. The Lighting Design is by Carlinville High School student, Maria Holley.
I Love You… has been translated into 14 languages, won eight international Best Musical awards, and grossed over 200 million around the world. The musical was written by Joe DePietro, with music by Jimmy Roberts.
