Virden woman charged with DUI, child endangerment

VIRDEN (Dec. 14, 2017) – Following a Tuesday, Dec. 5, crash on Route 4 between Chatham and Auburn, Theresa J. Gray, 65, of Virden has been charged in Sangamon County with four counts of aggravated driving under the influence, one count of child endangerment and one count of improper lane usage.

The crash happened at approximately 5:10 p.m., when Gray was reportedly northbound on Route 4 when the vehicle she was driving went off the road to the right, then veered back across the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Irinda Gregory, 73, of Springfield, which was southbound. Both Gray and Gregory, as well as a 4-year-old male who was a passenger in Gray’s vehicle, were sent to the hospital following the crash; Gregory died as a result of her injuries at 2:37 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
