Two men arrested following burglary
Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl announced Tuesday that two men had been arrested in connection with a burglary that occurred Sunday, Dec. 16.
Kahl’s department received a 911 call at 10:50 a.m. Sunday to the 9000 block of Brighton Bunker Hill Road, Bunker Hill. The caller advised that his neighbor was not home and he observed a white truck at the residence and heard a window break.
A deputy arrived on the scene and detained a male he found outside the residence. Upon further investigation, the deputy located another male who ran out of the residence, and the deputy was able to detain the male after a short foot chase. The deputy located a firearm on the suspect after detaining him.
Charged were Jerry Nichols, 48, of Decatur and Fred Skelton, 52, of Alton. Nichols was charged with armed violence, residential burglary and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon and is being held at Macoupin County Jail on $250,000 bond. Skelton was charged with obstructing justice and residential burglary and is being held at the jail on $100,000 bail.
