Tuesday prep update: Blackburn teams on spring trip
BELTON, TX – Mary Hardin-Baylor scored seven first inning runs and made it hold up in a 12-8 baseball victory over Blackburn College Tuesday evening.
Blackburn (1-5) attempted a comeback, getting within 9-6 with two runs in the second and four runs in the third inning, but would not get any closer.
Jake Lochhead (0-2) didn’t get out of the second inning, allowing nine runs (four earned) on five hits while walking seven. Sammy Gordon, Jonathan Stepp and Dillon Hensley also saw time on the mound for Blackburn. Ste pp struck out three in two perfect innings of relief.
For the Beavers, Brandon Smith went two for four with two RBIs; Tyler Durand was two for four, two runs; A.J. Gill two for four run; Joey Szerletich one for five, run; Walter Jarvis two for three, double, three runs, two RBIs; Richard Cardenas one for five, run; Ramon Rios one for four, two RBIs; Gregorio Costilla RBI.
Mark Frankhouser homered and drove in four runs for Mary Hardin-Baylor (6-8). Braden McMahan got the win with four and two-thirds innings of relief.
Ozarks, Ark. 6, Blackburn 2
CLARKSVILLE, ARK – Blackburn’s softball team lost a pair of games to Ozarks, Ark. Tuesday afternoon, losing game one 6-2 and game two 12-2.
The Beavers are now 0-4 on the season.
In game one, the Beavers led 2-0 in the second inning, but Ozarks came back with two runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth to take the lead.
Jensen Ballinger (0-2) allowed six earned runs on eight hits, while walking nine over six innings and striking out one.
For Blackburn, Lexi Yockey scored a run; Allison Howard RBI; Daniele Burnell one for three, run; Bobbi Morris two for three; Kaitlyn Wade one for two; Nikki Ridgeway RBI.
Ozarks got a home run from Katie Ventress among her three hits and two RBIs. Hannah Oler pitched four innings to get the win for Ozarks, 4-12 overall on the season.

In game two, Blackburn scored a run in the top of the first, but Ozarks scored 12 unanswered, including nine in the fourth in pulling out a 12-2 win.
Kaitlyn Wade (0-2) took the loss, allowing six earned runs on 11 hits with five walks over four innings.
Courtnie Walker (1-1) allowed two earned runs on six hits over four innings.
For Blackburn, Emma Tryborn was one for 3, run; Rachel Wolf one for 2; Abby Frerichs one for 2; Howard one for two; Liz Johnston one for two, run, double; Mikayla Morgan one for two, double, RBI.
Ozarks got two hits each from Brooke Hoffsommer, Ventress, Kaitlyn David with two hits each. Hailey Ostrander had three runs. Hoffsommer and Ventress both drove in two runs.
Weather continued it’s rough start to the spring sports season, as postponements among area teams included Lebanon at Bunker Hill baseball and softball; Routt at Greenfield/NW baseball and softball; Gillespie girls soccer at Centralia tournament; Southwestern at North Mac girls soccer.
Gillespie at Ramsey softball will be played Thursday, while Southwestern and North Mac girls soccer plays Saturday, as does Bunker Hill at Carrollton softball in a makeup from Monday.
