Award projects

Carlinville Girl Scout Troop 6826 conducted a basic self defense class Feb. 18 for local girls in grades 5-12, as part of their Journey Project, “It’s Your World—Change It!”

During the class, held at Brown’s Karate Academy in Carlinville, Illinois State Police Officer Rachel Bettis and self-defense instructor Rick Brown offered instruction on basic self-defense and awareness, to help girls understand the importance of being aware of their surroundings and teach them some fight-to-flee self-defense techniques.

All members of Troop 6826 are now eligible to begin projects to earn their Gold Awards, the highest award offered for Girl Scouts. Any local community organization that has a project suggestion and would like more information can contact the troop at gstroop6826@gmail.com.
