Trick or treat hours; Trunk-or-treat event Oct. 24

In Carlinville, children will be able to trick-or-treat from 5-8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Oct. 31. Merchant night will begin at 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 29. The Rotary Halloween parade will begin at 6:15 p.m. at Carlinville Plaza, with costume judging at city hall.

Other Macoupin County communities will have trick-or-treating hours as follows.

Benld: 6-8 p.m. Friday. The Italian Club and Benld Fire Department will host a parade beginning at 6 p.m. at Benld Library.

Gillespie: 6-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Gillespie Lions Club will host a parade beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, followed by costume judging at approximately 6:30 p.m. at Gillespie Civic Center.

Girard: 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Mt. Olive: 5-8 p.m., Friday and Saturday. The parade will begin at 5 p.m. at the gazebo park.

Staunton: 6-9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

A family-friendly Trunk or Treak event will be held from 3-6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 24, near the Canna Theater in Gillespie, sponsored by Gillespie Assembly of God Church.

At least 10 individually decorated vehicles will be open for a safe candy-gathering experience for they children, and Montgomery Street will be blocked off to create space for free activities such as a kids’ costume contest at 5 p.m.; fun and photos with a fire truck, stock car or ambulance; a bounce house; face painting; and balloon animals. Food including Frito pies, hot chocolate, Kool-Aid and hot dogs will be available.

“This is one way for us to serve our community,” said Pastor Nathan Nelson. “Last year, we had over 400 attend, and we look forward to providing a safe and fun atmosphere for a large crowd again this year.”
