Robert J. Fritz, 22, of Staunton has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault (a Class X felony) and criminal sexual assault (a Class 1 felony) in connection with a June 25 incident.

According to the charges, Fritz allegedly committed an act of sexual penetration by force with a girl at least 9 years of age but under age 13 by holding her down.

The charges were filed Tuesday, Aug. 9, and a warrant for Fritz’s arrest was served the next day. Fritz is being held in Macoupin County Jail on $100,000 bail. He is prohibited from having any contact with the victim.

A Class X felony is punishable by 6-30 years in prison with no probation and three years of mandatory supervised release. A Class 1 felony is punishable by 4-15 years in prison with up to four years of probation and two years of mandatory supervised release.

Fritz is set to appear at a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 28, in front of Judge Joshua Meyer.
