State Championship Game Preview 2016
No. 4 Carlinville Cavaliers 12-1 vs. No. 1 Elmhurst Immaculate Conception Catholic Knights 13-0
4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25 – Memorial Stadium, Champaign
Series: First meeting.
Coaches – Carlinville – Chad Easterday, ninth season (71-27). Elmhurst Immaculate Conception – Bill Krefft, fifth season (41-15).
Tickets: Went on sale Tuesday at Carlinville High School. Are available at the gate of Memorial Stadium for $10 each (no reserved seating).
Television: Comcast Sports Chicago-Plus will televise the game, as will channel 49 in Springfield. Radio: WSMI-FM 106.3 will broadcast the game.
Directions: Head east out of Carlinville to I-55. Follow I-55 to Springfield, connecting with I-72 (Exit 98) in Springfield, heading east toward Decatur, and following signs to Champaign, which will merge into University Ave.
Turn right (south) onto Mattis Avenue, and continue 1.3 miles, where you will turn left onto W. Kirby Avenue. Memorial Stadium will be 2.1 miles down the road on the left. Parking for fans is at State Farm Center, south of Memorial Stadium. Parking is $5. Tailgating is allowed, but alcohol and tobacco products not allowed per IHSA rules.
Grange Grove: Each school will have a tent for fans on the west side of the stadium. The 40’ by 40’ tent has lights and walls, heated, and includes free popcorn, cotton candy, hot cocoa, water and coffee. Also includes a mechanical bull, football toss game and beanbag toss game.
Game day: The Cavaliers, designated as the home team, will wear dark jerseys and occupy the east sidelines. The team will receive an escort from the interstate to the stadium at around 1:45 p.m. by the Champaign Police Department. Both teams will be awarded trophies and medals in the south end zone following the game.
Rally: A community rally be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the CHS gymnasium.
About the Knights: Member of the Metro Suburban Conference…State champions in 2002 and 2008…Was a quarterfinalist in 2015 finishing with an 11-2 record…Top offensive threats include running back Jordan Rowell (153 carries-2025 yards, 34 touchdowns; and 30 catches for 515 yards and four touchdowns)…Lazerick Eatman has 503 yards rushing on 76 carries with five touchdowns and Luke Ricobene has 646 yards rushing on 48 carries and 11 touchdowns…The quarterback is Ricobene, who has completed 134 of 200 passes for 2,247 yards and 27 touchdowns, with eight interceptions…Top receiver is Matt Sutton, 28 catches for 532 yards an seven touchdowns.
