St. Francis Hospital lab receives accreditation
LITCHFIELD (Oct. 12, 2017) – The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to the laboratory at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of CAP’s accreditation programs.
The facility’s medical director, Paul A. Kay, M.D., was advised of this national recognition and congratulated for the excellence of the services being provided.
“All colleagues in the lab are very dedicated to providing quality patient care at St. Francis,” said Stephanie Tharp, divisional director of clinical laboratories at the hospital. “Receiving this recognition of laboratory excellence is a great honor.”
Accreditation is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients. Survey inspectors examined the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. They also examined laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management of the department. The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the 1960s, as being equal to or more stringent than the government’s own inspection program.
In fiscal year 2016, the St. Francis Hospital laboratory performed more than 111,000 tests.
