The HSHS St. Francis Foundation and its agricultural committee will host its third annual Farm Family event on Thursday, March 2, at Lincoln Land Community College in Litchfield. The event is free and open to all farmers and their families who live in Macoupin and Montgomery counties.

Complimentary health screenings will be available from 7-9 a.m., including a comprehensive blood profile that screens for anemia, infection, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, thyroid, liver and kidney function; a skin cancer screening; an oral cancer consultation; a hemoglobin A1C check; hearing, vision and blood pressure checks.

Beginning at 8 a.m., a breakfast buffet will be served, sponsored by Litchfield Family Practice Center, followed by a presentation at 8:30 a.m. by Bob Farmer, a popular agriculture comedian and writer for the Farmers’ Almanac. Following Farmer’s presentation, a market outlook panel discussion will begin, featuring Todd Gleason, University of Illinois farm broadcaster.

“We appreciate the work of our farmers, and this event is an opportunity to express our gratitude to them for all that they do,” said Paula Endress, director of philanthropy for the hospital. “Don’t miss this opportunity to put aside your troubles for a while and experience Bob Farmer’s great entertainment. We hope this event will be beneficial to our area farmers by providing them with health screenings, a great panel of speakers on agriculture issues, and a nice meal. We appreciate all the work of our agriculture committee members: Kevin Niemann, Tony Herman, Lou Ellen Anderson, Tony Marten, Levi Suhrenbrock and Jane Martin in planning this event.”

The agriculture committee will present the first St. Isidore Friend of Agriculture Award during the program. The award is in honor of the patron saint of farmers and recognizes the contributions of an individual or business that has furthered the importance of good stewardship as it relates to agriculture.

Pre-registration by Feb. 27 is necessary for the health screenings and breakfast and may be made by contacting Meghan Bertolino at the hospital at (217) 324-8206.
