Soccer Cavies erupt early against Vandalia
The best way to a win is to jump on a team early and often, so the proverb says.
So was the case Saturday when the Vandalia soccer team came to Carlinville. The Cavaliers jumped out to a 10-0 first half lead and cruised to that same final over the Vandals.
Carlinville held a 20-0 edge in shots in the contest, improving to 8-6 overall and 6-1 in the South Central loop. Vandalia is 0-11.
Matt Schmidt, Blake Hubbard and Michael Douglas each had two goals for the Cavies.
Schmidt’s first goal of the game came in the first minute, just nine seconds, in fact, and the team would not be headed.
Tyler Martin scored at 8:11 off an assist from Schmidt to make it 2-0.
Hubbard’s first goal came two minutes later, at 10:03, assisted by Ronak Patel to make it 3-0.
At 13:04, Koltan Page scored off an assist from Chase Wendt and it was a 4-0 lead for Carlinville.
The Cavaliers made it 5-0 at 21:32, as Schmidt scored his second of the game. Landon Eades added a goal at 25:53, assisted by Jeff Grieve, to make it 6-0.
Michael Douglas, Bryce Rives, Douglas and Hubbard added goals over an eight-minute stretch late in the first half to account for the Cavalier scoring.
