The Carlinville Unit School District No. 1 Board of Education approved four bids totaling nearly $110,000 to repair a broken sewer line at a special meeting June 27.
A bid of $69,278 for plumbing services from Griffith Plumbing was approved in a 3-0 vote (board member Dale Reels abstained).
The three other bids were approved together on a 4-0 vote (Bobbie Bates, Dan Kallal, Sam Harding and Reels): Meffs Enterprises of $28,428 for excavation and cement replacement; J.K. Snyder of $7,740 for directional boring; and Starr Electric of $3,800 for electrical work associated with the installation of a new lift station.
Superintendent Becky Schuchman said the bids for the summer sewer project were separated because Reels has a son employed by Griffith Plumbing.
The work involves boring beneath West Main Street for the replacement of a sewer line that runs to the kitchen at Carlinville High School. Schuchman said the line which needs replaced was installed in 1954.
The work was scheduled to begin July 1 and be completed by Aug. 8.
