Last weekend, a total of 16 Carlinville Middle School athletes headed to the IESA Class AA state track and field meet in East Peoria.
Day one of competition was greeted by cool temperatures and rain throughout the morning. In the afternoon the rain stopped but the temperature remained chilly.
Day two started off with a two-hour rain delay but the rained moved out and the afternoon warmed up the festivities.
Every athlete competed hard over the two days and two Carlinville athletes were able to bring home Medals.
Luke Daugherty finished third place in the seventh grade pole vault at state. Daugherty set a new seventh grade school record with a jump at the conference meet of 10-feet-10 inches. Daugherty is looking forward to next season and has his sights set on capturing the eighth grade school record and returning to the podium at the state meet.
Dustin Roberts competed in the eighth grade pole vault and also finished in 3rd place. Roberts, a first year track athlete, didn’t start vaulting until late April and took to it very quickly.
Coming into the state meet he had achieved a personal best of 9-feet-9 inches. That was a mark he would pass by 15 inches, clearing 11 feet at the state track meet to earn his medal.
Another group of athletes, the seventh grade 4 x 200 relay team, also set a school record this season. The team, made up of Jake Egelhoff, Mason Patton, Luke Daugherty, and Drew Richardson, turned in a time of 1:49.4 at the sectional meet to break the previous record set in 1988.
Also at state, the Warriors’ seventh grade boys 4 x 400 relay seventh grade team finished 28th.
Levi Yudinski finished 18th in the seventh grade pole vault, and Colton Robinson was 14th in the seventh grade shot put.
Eighth grade pole vault had Madison Drake finishing 25th, while Bobby Seal finished 40th in the eighth grade long jump.
The eighth grade girls 4 x 100 relay team finished 21st.
In seventh grade girls, Adrienne Tracy finished 34th in the 100-meter dash, and Annabelle Hulin was 27th in the 800-meter run.
Farris Howard high jumped to a 10th place finish and Ella Walker was 32nd in the shot put.
