School board reorganization takes place at CUSD #1

The Carlinville Unit School District No. 1 Monday night reorganized the board of education at a special meeting.

One new board member has joined in Kathy Gahr while two others were re-elected. All board members were reaffirmed during the oath of office presentation.

After the school board adjourned sine die, Superintendent of Schools Mike Kelly, acting as president pro tem, accepted nominations for president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer.

A motion was made and seconded to have Bobbi Bates serve as president, Dan Kallal as vice-president; Dr. Tracey Smith as secretary and Charlie Siegel as treasurer. It passed unanimously.

Cheryl Price was also appointed as secretary to the Board of Education, passing unanimously.

The board approved a motion to conform to the existing policy, rules and regulations of the board.

Designation of the district’s funds depositories were also approved.  The district uses the following institutions: CNB Bank and Trust; U.S. Bank; Chesterfield State Bank; Bank and Trust Company; United Community Bank, The Illinois Funds; and PMA Securities, Inc.

While the district does not currently have funds in each of these institutions, it has used them in the past and may do so in the future.

Meeting dates for the upcoming year for the board of education were also approved. One change was to the Jan. 15, 2018 meeting date, which falls on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The board will meet the next night, Jan. 16, 2018 at 7 p.m.

The board will dish out appointments to standing board committees, including Finance, Activities, Demuzio Center, Board Policy Manual, Long Term Planning, Insurance and Collective Bargaining, at a later date.

Also at the meeting, the board voted to accept the resignation of Michael Graham as a van/bus driver, effective April 24; approved a maternity leave for Jennifer Enrietta August 16 through Sept. 1, 2017; and accepted the resignation of Chris Heller as a bus driver for the purpose of retiring at the end of the 2016-17 school year.
