Carlinville K-5 PTO will host a dueling pianos event Saturday, Feb. 16, from 6-10 p.m. at the Carlinville Elks Lodge as part of its efforts to raise $40,000 over the next three years to benefit the school.

The event will feature musicians from Spanky Entertainment, based out of St. Louis, Mo., with music teacher Dustin White as the opening act. In addition, there will be a live and silent auction, hot appetizers provided by the Elks, snacks on the tables, and a cash bar, with free soda, tea and water.

The PTO has hosted similar fundraisers before, under different officers, but this year’s will be held at the Elks Lodge instead of at the Bates Building on the fairgrounds. “We are hoping this year’s tables will be sold out,” said PTO Communications Secretary Kate Wills. “We are so excited to provide a fun, social event for parents and community members alike that also raises funds that will benefit our local schools.”

Surveys given to teachers at each of the schools indicated that there is a need for playground updates and outdoor classroom space at Carlinville Primary School and for student lockers at Carlinville Intermediate School. “We plan to assist the school district in making those top-requested items a reality by implementing phases each year,” said Wills. “For example, phase one of the playground updates will be completion of a basketball court on the existing concrete slab at CPS. Our goal is to complete each project in three years or less.”

The PTO hopes to raise $10,000 with this event to help with that plan. To help with that goal, they are seeking donations and sponsorships from local businesses and community members. “We would like to thank Carlinville businesses and individuals for your generosity,” Wills said. “Together, we are helping to make better schools for our kids!”
