GIRARD – Zayne Langellier got North Mac off to a good start, scoring 11 of his 13 points in the first quarter, and North Mac cruised to its first win of the season, 54-38 at home Tuesday against the Carlinville Cavaliers.

Sam Mount added six points on four free throws in the opening quarter and Tanner Wilson knocked down a three pointer for North Mac in quarter one.

The Cavies (2-1) had just one field goal by Jarret Easterday on a three-pointer while missing three of four free throws in the first eight minutes. It was 20-4 Panthers after a quarter.

North Mac extended the lead to 33-15 at halftime. Carlinville got four points from Will Walton and five points from Josh Hinzman in the second quarter.

The Panthers built a lead of 19, 41-22, heading to the fourth quarter. The Cavaliers did hit eight of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter and outscored North Mac 16-13 but came up on the short end of the final score of 54-38.

Walton paced Carlinville with 12 points. Joe Fraser added nine points; Hinzman had seven; Logan Rosentreter four points; Andrew DeNeve three points; Briley Roper two points and Finn Bowman one point. Carlinville was 13 of 20 at the foul line.

Mount had 15 points and Langellier 13 for North Mac. Wilson finished with seven points; Jake Mullink six; Dane Van Buskirk six; Will Downs three; Will Christopher two; and Ryan Gustafson two. North Mac made eight of 11 free throws.

Nokomis 45, Gillespie 27

GILLESPIE – Nokomis pulled way in the middle two quarters Tuesday to defeat Gillespie 45-27 on the Miners’ home court Tuesday night.

Nokomis led 5-0 after a quarter, 13-4 at half and 34-11 through three quarters.

Anthony Kravanya had 10 points for Gillespie while Frankie Barrett and Domonik Taylor scored six each.

B.J. Chausse and Carter Sabol had 10 each for Nokomis.

Staunton 53, EAWR 31

STAUNTON – Brady Kinder and Lucas Sievers each had 12 points as Staunton improved to 2-0 by winning a home contest Tuesday against East Alton-Wood River, 53-31.

The Bulldogs led 14-6 after a quarter, 28-10 at half and 40-17 through three quarters of play.

Southwestern at Litchfield

LITCHFIELD – The boys game between Litchfield and Southwestern for Tuesday was postponed due to an outbreak of influenza at Litchfield High School. No makeup date was announced.

Junior high boys basketball

CARLINVILLE – Both the seventh and eighth grade Carlinville Warriors boys’ basketball teams earned wins over Staunton at home Tuesday night.
