Prep Tuesday: GFNW Tigers open seasons
JACKSONVILLE – Greenfield/Northwestern and Jacksonville Routt played season-opening baseball and softball games Tuesday at Jacksonville.
The softball Tigers opened shop by rallying from 4-0 down for a 7-4 win over Jacksonville Routt.
The Rockets led 4-0 after two runs in the first and third innings, and took that lead into the sixth.
But GFNW had an answer with a six-run sixth inning to grab the lead, and added a run in the seventh. Megan Jones had three hits, including a double, driving in two runs. Kaitlyn Foiles had a single, triple, RBI and scored two runs. Peyton Arnett also had two hits, with a double.
Carlye Omellas and Peyton Arnett saw time on the mound. Ornellas struck out four and Arnett fanned five.
Routt 10, GFNW 0
In baseball action, Routt scored three in the second and four in the third inning to pull away from Greenfield/Northwestern Tuesday.
The Tigers were limited to to hits – one each by Jacob Lansaw and Zane Thomson.
In other prep action on Monday, Southwestern defeated North Mac 5-0 in girls soccer action in Piasa.
GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Blackburn baseball team lost a 6-2 decision to Southwestern on Tuesday evening.
Blackburn tied the game 2-2 in the fifth, but Southwestern scored the next four runs over three innings to get the win.
Steven Diaz had two hits and a stolen base for Blackburn. Ryan Steen and Brandon Smith drove in runs. Nate Bassett and Diaz scored runs.
Isaac Garrett took the loss for the Beavers (2-9).
Crown 11, Blackburn 4
NAPLES, Fla. – Blackburn’s softball team lost the second game of Tuesday’s spring break trip to Crown, Minn. 11-4.
The team had won earlier in the day 8-4 against Curry.
Crown scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back against the Beavers. Carlinville’s Baylee Hughes had two hits, as did Hannah Goett.
