Post Prom plans Dancing with the Stars event
CARLINVILLE (Jan. 11, 2018) – Looking for a fun new event to bring the community together and raise money to host a safe post-prom event, the Carlinville Post Prom Committee decided to host a Dancing with the Stars competition featuring community and school district “stars.” The event will be held Saturday, Feb. 3, in the Carlinville High School gym, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. and the event starting at 7 p.m.
Judges for the event will include Teresa Gwillim, Lynne Evans, John Comerford and Kitsie Denby. The competitive dance pairs will be announced on the Carlinville Post Prom Facebook event page, located at facebook.com/events/376279202837163. Two winning teams will be determined: grand champions and people’s choice; spectators should bring cash to vote for their favorite teams.
Each team will perform two dances — a disco and Charleston. Following each performance, the judges will give their votes and commentary. At intermission, spectators will vote with cash on the teams they liked best after their first dance. In the second half of the competition, spectators will vote with cash after each performance. Junior class volunteers will walk the bleachers gathering up the votes (cash). At the end, organizers will announce the grand champions picked by the judges and the people’s choice award voted by the spectators.
The event will also include performances by the local dance studios, CHS Cavalettes and alumni. BJ Vinyard will serve as the master of ceremonies.
Cost to attend is $10 per adult and $5 per student, with children ages 4 and younger getting in free. Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance at Coco Bongo, Body Depot, Bliss and Gibbel Home Services.
