Motorcyclist takes police on high-speed chase

7 20 17

A Litchfield man led officers from three Macoupin County police departments on a high-speed chase the afternoon of July 12. The chase began in Gillespie when an officer investigated a report of an unattended motorcycle parked in the alley behind the 300 block of South Macoupin Street.

When the driver, Shane D. Ogden, now 46, of Litchfield, returned to the motorcycle, the officer, who had already checked the motorcycle’s plates, tried to question Ogden who then allegedly got on the motorcycle and fled the scene, traveling south down the alley, then southbound on Route 4. The officer followed with lights and sirens. The officer eventually disengaged from the chase for safety reasons, but continued to follow the subject through Benld and Sawyerville with assistance from a Benld officer.

After entering Staunton, Ogden turned east on Main Street before being apprehended on Herman Road, just west of I-55.

Ogden was taken into custody and transported to Macoupin County Jail. He was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, a Class 4 felony. He was also cited with driving on a revoked license, a Class A misdemeanor; speeding 35+ miles over the limit (70 mph in a 35 mph zone); improper lane usage; and disregarding a stop sign.

Ogden’s bail was set at $30,000, with $3,000 bond posted on July 17. A preliminary hearing is set for 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 26, with Judge Joshua Meyer presiding.
