Miners make all state softball squad
After a 31-4 season, postseason accolades came a calling for members of the Gillespie softball team.
The Miners placed three on the Illinois Coaches Association all-state softball team for Class 2A, including a pair on the second team and another on the third team.
Addison Bryant and Mackenzie Kasarda, the battery for most of the games this year for Gillespie, were second-team selections, while first baseman Rylee Sarti was a third-team all-state selection.
Bryant finished the season 25-4 on the mound with an ERA of 0.93. She struck out 356 in 196 2/3 innings pitched, allowing 87 hits.
Offensively, Bryant hit .417 with six home runs, 31 RBIs, 10 doubles, six triples and 30 steals.
Kasarda, the catcher, hit .430 with eight home runs, 33 RBIs, 11 doubles and 13 steals.
Sarti was a .406 hitter with four home runs, 34 RBIs and seven doubles.
Gillespie won a regional championship and advanced to the sectional final before losing to Dupo. The Miners claimed a share of the South Central Conference title with arch-rival Carlinville.
