Melva M. Lohmar, 85
FORSYTH (April 24, 2018) – Melva Marie Lohmar, 85, of Forsyth passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Imboden Nursing Home in Decatur, with her family.
She was born Feb. 22, 1933, in Staunton to Lawrence and Annetta (Hoffstetter) Coatney. She married James H. Lohmar on April 26, 1952, at Zion Lutheran Church in Staunton; he preceded her in death on July 20, 2016.
Mrs. Lohmar was a homemaker who loved her family and would drop everything to see her grandchildren and had many friends she talked to every day. Under her high school picture was the caption, “Call me Flow, because I talk in a steady stream.” She had worked at the Danville Salvation Army, Mound School cafeteria and Bergner’s in Forsyth. She was a breast cancer survivor since 1972.
Surviving are her children, Tom (Shirley) Lohmar of Mt. Zion, Susie (John) Hoffman of Springfield and Rick (Karen) Lohmar of Silver Springs, Md.; grandchildren, Jennifer Lohmar (Brett) Meinhart, Tatum Lohmar, Brendan Lohmar and Victor Hoffman.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Coatney, in infancy.
Graveside services with only family and close friends present will be held in May. Kravanya Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
