Local volunteer nominated for senior honor

A volunteer at Carlinville Area Hospital is in the running for a state recognition titled Salute to Senior Care, which is sponsored by Home Instead Inc.

LuAnn Leefers, who volunteers about 15 hours a week at the hospital, is one of 20-plus nominated for the honor.

“We have many outstanding volunteers in the Carlinville Area Hospital Auxiliary,” said Jamie Bray, CAH director of development, director of registration, lifeline coordinator and the Auxiliary liasion. “When I was contacted about nominating, only one volunteer, LuAnn Leefers, was top on my list. She is dependable, caring, kind, and genuine. She is a real ‘go getter’ and volunteers for other nonprofit organizations in the community too. She is very deserving of this recognition.”

The state winners will receive a $500 donation to the non-profit charity of their choice. State winners will be announced June 9. The national winners will be announced June 30.

“What a great woman who loves to give back, Carlinville’s best volunteer and that’s a fact,” says the closing two lines of a 14-line poem included with Leefers’ entry.
