Carlinville’s defense had been a driving force early in the year, but the offense took a little bit longer to come out of its shell. This past week, however, was a completely different story. In addition to posting three shutouts over the course of a four-game winning streak, the soccer Cavaliers scored 19 goals during that stretch as well.
Carlinville kicked off conference play with a 7-0 stomping at Greenville, then followed up that dazzling performance with a 3-0 statement in Pana. The Cavies returned to home turf on Apr. 5 and continued their winning ways by deflecting the Lady Bullers of Williamsville 3-1. Two days later, Carlinville blanked East-Alton Wood River 6-0 behind another solid defensive effort as well as two-goal performances from both Adrianne Welte and Skylar Nickel.
The Cavaliers are 6-2-1 overall and 2-0 in South Central conference play.
“We had a great week and we got a lot of game experience. Everyone is starting to click and we are putting the ball in the net. It’s our goal to get better every day and I believe we are doing that,” praised Carlinville head coach Tim Johnson.
