Kenneth E. Stanton

Kenneth E. Stanton, 77, of Medora, passed away Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at 10:35 a.m., in Jersey County. He was born May 7, 1935, in Medora to Vernard “Bud” C. and  Mary V. Rice Stanton. He married Shirley M. Smith, of Medora, Sept. 15, 1953 in Jersey County.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Wanda and Robert Ruyle; a sister-in-law, Lola Smith; and his father and mother-in-law, Jessie and Lelia Smith.

Kenny worked 41 years at Laclede Steel and was an auctioneer for 53 years. He was a sponsor of the Medora Athletic Association and the Southwestern Booster Club, a lifetime member of the Medora Lions and the Masons as well as a Board member of the Southwestern Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Tri-county Antique Club and the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Medora. He was also an avid horseman.

Surviving are a daughter; Mary B.  (Charles) Dixon, of Medora; two sons, Ron (Judy) Stanton and Don (Tanya) Stanton, both of Medora; six grandchildren, Shannon (Darian) Clothier, Derek Dixon, Jared Stanton, Adam Jordan Stanton, Caden Stanton and London Stanton; three great-grandchildren, Austin Stanton,  McKenzie Stanton and Peyton Clothier; two sisters, Velva Jean (Loren) Darr, of Medora and Sue (Calvin) Edwards, of Shipman; one brother-in-law, George Smith, of Medora; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation was Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013,  from 4-8 p.m., at Targhetta and Wooldridge Funeral Home in Medora with Masonic services by the Shipman Masonic Lodge #212 at 8 p.m.

Funeral services are Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Medora with the Rev. Rob Cleeton officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church or The Southwestern Booster Club.
