J.F. Boente and Sons serving the public since
CARLINVILLE (March 15, 2018) – It’s a family atmosphere at J.F. Boente and Sons in Carlinville, while providing services to the growing community.
Into its fourth generation of serving the public, the company recently remodeled its location at 543 W. Main St. in Carlinville with a new convenience store building and added gas pumps. Office space and a service station are right next door. An additional service station and convenience store at 830 East 1st South St. includes a car wash.
Dave Boente says the company continues to thrive while providing the Carlinville community with the best possible service.
Boente and Sons, Inc. has 11 locations in a 35-mile radius of the area, and also offers a propane gas service to customers.
Joseph Boente and his two brothers, Hugo and John, helped open the service station in 1929. Joseph’s sons, Joe, Stephen and Larry, later joined the business. Larry continues to come in and check on the business.
“All the descendants of those three have pretty much worked in this business at one time or another,” D.Boente said.
Sean Boente is the only fourth generation employee thus far.
Greg Boente and Jason Bethard help run the propane business portion of the company, with four bulk plants handling up to 79,000 gallons of propane provided to 2,000 customers within a 50-mile radius of Carlinville.
John Kahl has been with the company close to 50 years with the propane portion of the company.
Mark Boente and Julie Boente help with the store operations and Shawn and Nathan Starr have helped take over the new store, doing bookkeeping along with Deb Boehm and Donna Wild.
Boente and Sons like to support the businesses in town.
The new convenience store, Grandpa Joe’s, has a mural on the east wall of the building which features numerous photos of Carlinville athletes and school-related activities. It has incorporated a lot of the various schools through donations of photos and various items.
“We try to support the organizations in town that we can,” D.Boente said. “What’s crucial to me now – as you drive down West Main St. and get to the square, there’s a lot of young people running businesses. They’ve decided they want to make Carlinville home and perhaps raise a family here and if we don’t all support them, it’ll be a tough go. I’m proud of all of them and happy to see all the youth back in Carlinville. I think it’s a very good thing. I hope they keep it a vibrant community and we ourselves have loved living here so we’d like to see that continue.”
