Henkenmeier celebrates 100th birthday

Dolores Henkenmeier celebrated her 100th birthday on Oct. 18 in Louisville, Ky. With her to observe her birthday were her sons, Wendell and his wife Margaret of Leesburg, Fla.; Lynn and his wife Glenna of Louisville, Ky.; and Lyle “Hank” and his wife Patty of Lynn, Mass.

Mrs. Henkenmeier and her late husband, Loren, were longtime residents of Carlinville. They were active with the Town and Country organization and with the Putt and Dunk group at Gillespie Country Club. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church. Mr. Henkenmeier coached Little League teams and was active in the American Legion, which sponsored Boy Scout Troop 64, for which he was the advancement chairman. Mrs. Henkenmeier enjoyed being a part of the Home Bureau. She was the Carlinville correspondent for the Illinois State Register for many years. She, along with some other women who were raising their children in the Standard Addition, felt there was a great need for a playground in the neighborhood; through their efforts, Tom Thumb Playground came into being.

She has six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cards may be sent to Mrs. Henkenmeier c/o Lynn Henkenmeier, 13505 Squire Springs Court, Louisville, KY 40245.
