Katie Jackson is bringing her designing background to Heinz Furntiture.

“I’ll be designing kitchens, baths, fireplace surrounds, laundry rooms, whatever the customer needs,” she said. “Our goal is to do everything from drywall on.”

From countertops, cabinets, backsplash, flooring, furniture and stone, Heinz will be able to take care of it all.

Whether it’s new construction, from blueprints, or more of a remodel project.

Jackson, or someone else from Heinz, will come out to the project site and do all the measuring prior to the start of the upgrade.

Heinz owner Greg Whitler is excited about the new phase of the business.

“We’ve worked together before,” Whitler said. “We decided to team up again, to be a one-stop shop with a goal of taking customers from the drywall stage through completion of the construction.”

The need for designing is always there, Jackson noted.

“People are always planning ahead, so it’s constant,” Jackson said.

Whitler, who previously spent time at R.P. Lumber, has 20 years of experience in the building trades industry. Adding more building materials has been part of his long-term business plan.

“It’s just kind of came together,” he said. “Blinds, cabinets, backsplash, flooring. In this area, we project do more remodels than new building.”

Oftentimes, the new building involves more planning, Jackson noted.

Previously, Heinz didn’t offer design services. Jackson is an experienced designer who brings an established rapport.

As part of the new changes, the store will be added a 22-by-32 foot addition and changing around the footprint. While they’re in a transition mode now, they’ll be focusing on cabinets and other design features.

“The wheels are in motion,” Whitler said. “It’s all part of diversifying ourselves.”

“You have to continue to take advantage of opportunities like this,” Whitler said. “Flooring has been our bigger seller the past few years and we project our kitchen center to be our top performer in the future.”

With more of a whole-home concept, there’s an effort to focus on products besides just furniture.

The business used to sell cabinets in the 1800s.

“It made sense to bring this back,” Whitler said.

The business has been around since 1854, and Whitler stresses that taking care of the customer is the key to maintaining success.

“It’s serving that keeps business going that long,” Whitler said. “It’s an exciting time.”

Jackson uses the 2020 design program, an industry standard, to give customers a 3-D look at how their new project will look when completed on a 55-inch HD television.

“We are looking to business not just in Carlinville but other markets as well,” Whitler said. “We plan to travel from Springfield to St. Louis. We’re willing to travel where the work is at.”

Heinz is located at 208 West Main Street, Carlinville. In addition to cabinets, countertops, they also offer flooring options, mattresses, window treatment, home decor, stone and much more.
