Goodman Agency named business of the year

GILLESPIE (Feb. 1, 2018) – Coal Country Chamber of Commerce announced at its annual awards banquet on Saturday, Jan. 27, that Goodman Agency had been chosen as the 2017 CCCC Business of the Year. They received a gift certificate for a free night’s stay at the Hampton Inn in Litchfield, as well as a plaque.

The company was founded in 1977 as Kasten-Goodman Agency, Inc., by Roger Goodman and Dale Kasten and continued under that name until 2007, when Kasten retired. It is now owned and operated by Goodman and his wife, Fran, under the name Goodman Agency, Inc. The business expanded to Benld in 2005, opening a branch office, and currently has 14 real estate brokers and four full-time insurance agents, all servicing Macoupin and surrounding counties.

According to CCCC Treasurer Mike Brill, Goodman Agency was named Business of the Year because of their dedication to the Chamber since establishing their Benld office. “They’ve been active, enthusiastic members of the Chamber,” he said. “You always see them volunteering for at least one summer concert, helping out at the concession stand during the fall festival. They’ve been a generous sponsor of a number of events as well over the years. It’s organizations like this that helps keep this Chamber going and providing the opportunities to the communities, as far as the summer concerts, the fall festival, the snack with Santa, Holiday Sparkle, and all the great things that we’re able to do because of groups like this.”

“Thank you so much, all of you. I know that Fran and I appreciate this,” said R. Goodman, noting he suspected something was going on because so many people from his office were in attendance at the dinner. “It’s been a pleasure to belong to the Chamber… Mickey [Robinson] and all have been good to us. We love this area. My wife’s from Benld. I spend a lot of time down here.” He then introduced the members of his staff who were present and closed by saying the award is “quite an honor.”

Other awards presented that evening were to Jennifer Redolfi, Spirit of CCCC Award; Bill Miller of Bill’s IGA, Good Heart Award; and Renee and Rich Katich, Good Heart Award.

Kim Harber, senior vice president of Madison Communications, was the keynote speaker for the banquet.
