Gillespie woman injured in crash

LITCHFIELD (Sept. 21, 2017) – Illinois State Police District 18 is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 13, near Litchfield.

According to information released by Trooper Heath Bryan, a 2017 passenger car driven by Richard Collis, 26, of Reading, United Kingdom, used exit 52 to exit Interstate 55 southbound approaching Route 16 at 2:39 p.m. A 2010 Ford passenger car driven by Charlene Taylor, 75, of Gillespie, was westbound on Route 16 over Interstate 55. Collis stopped at the intersection and pulled out onto Route 16 in front of Taylor, who was unable to avoid striking Collis’ vehicle on the driver’s side.

Taylor and Collis’ passenger, 31-year-old Sophie Nash of Reading, United Kingdom, were both transported to St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield, by Litchfield Fire Department with non-incapacitating injuries.

Route 16 was down to one lane for approximately one hour while the road was cleaned and the vehicles removed. The crash remains under investigation.
