Gillespie softball season ends
WILLIAMSVILLE – Payton Sturdy pitched a three-hitter for Buffalo Tri-City Tuesday afternoon, as the Tornadoes defeated the Gillespie Miners 5-1 in a sectional softball contest at Williamsville.
Sturdy struck out eight and walked one despite an injured wrist.
Tri-City scored twice in the third on RBI-singles by Aubrey Hunt and Taylor Page.
In the fifth, Hunt doubled in Sturdy, who had singled, to make it a 3-0 game.
Gillespie got their run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Rylee Jarman singled with one out, went to second on a ground out, and scored on a two-out single by Mackenzie Kasarda.
Tri-City scored twice more in the seventh inning. Anna Sagle tripled and scored on a hit by Becca Patrick. Patrick later scored to make it 5-1.
Addison Bryant struck out eight, walked three and allowed eight hits and five earned runs over seven innings.
Hunt and Patrick each had two hits. Hunt and Page drove in two runs each and Patrick scored two runs for Tri-City.
