George J. Cerutti

 

George J. Cerutti, 80, of Irving, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2021, at 10:12 p.m., at his residence.

George was born on Aug. 16, 1940, in Litchfield, to the late Joseph M. and Rose (Fenoglio) Cerutti.

He married Diane Karnes, on Dec. 18, 1965, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro.

He was a 1958 Graduate of Gillespie High School in Gillespie, and a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served from 1961 to 1963, during the Cuban Missile Crises.

He had worked as a Coal Miner at Little Dog Coal Mine in Gillespie, Consol Coal Mine in Coffeen, and then he became a Federal Mine Inspector. He was also a Prudential Sales Agent; owner/operator of DX Station in Hillsboro; co-owner of Woody’s Tavern in Hillsboro, and owner of Cerutti Baseball Card Shop in Hillsboro.

George was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Gillespie, and Hillsboro; Jaycees in Hillsboro; Witt Lions and Hillsboro Lions; Hillsboro School Board in Hillsboro, where he served as President; Moose Lodge #1377 in Hillsboro, and Shoal Creek Ducks Unlimited, where he had served on the committee for over 30 years. Mr. Cerutti also had a relentless passion for waterfowl hunting.

Mr. Cerutti is survived by his wife, Diane Cerutti of Irving; two children, Mike (Judy) Cerutti, Jill Cerutti, both of Coffeen; seven grandchildren, Reid (Christina) Cerutti, Luke Cerutti, Jacob Cerutti, Ashley (Craig) Steed, Ciara Hrabusicky (significant other, Drake Ondrey), Jaci Hrabusicky, Samantha (Corey) Franzen; six great grandchildren and one sister, Betty Luketich Cerutti of Gillespie.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021, at Bost Hill Cemetery in Fillmore with Father Daniel Willenborg, Pastor of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Hillsboro, will officiating. Military rites were held at the graveside with burial in Bost Hill Cemetery in Fillmore.

Memorials are suggested to Montgomery County Cancer Association (MCCA) or Camden’s Crew.
