Garners celebrate 60th wedding anniversary
TEXAS (Sept. 13, 2018) – Robert and Evelyn Garner of Lufkin, Texas, formerly of rural Plainview, observed their 60th wedding anniversary on Thursday, Aug. 30. They were married in Baytown, Texas, in 1958 by Rev. Wayne Harbaugh.
Mrs. Garner was from Baytown, and Mr. Garner was from Green Bay, Wis. He was transferred by Esso Research and Engineering in Baytown to Carlinville, where he set up and operated the chemical laboratory for Monterey Coal Company for 25 years, retiring when Exxon shut down coal production. Mrs. Garner was a homemaker and worked part-time for Lake Williamson Christian Center for 17 years.
They moved from the Carlinville area two years ago after being there for 46 years. They were members of First Assembly of God Church in Carlinville, where Mr. Garner was a Sunday school teacher, and other members became like family since personal relatives were mostly far away.
They have six children, all of whom graduated from Carlinville High School — Cynthia Garner of Houston, Texas, Dale Garner of Houston, Dean Garner of Lufkin, Texas, Cheryl Garner Osorio of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Jana Garner of Rancho Cucamonga, and Dana Garner of Bali, Indonesia — as well as four grandchildren.
