First JFL game set for Aug. 17

Carlinville’s JFL teams, which are comprised of eighth-, seventh-, sixth- and fifth-graders begin the 2013 season Saturday, Aug. 17, when the squads compete at Vandalia.

JFL practice began July 29 The teams hold practices on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the field behind the district’s bus garage and the Carlinville Intermediate School.

Quinn Steiner, one of the coaches for the sixth grade squad, said practice has gone well so far.

This year, the conditions for practicing have been much better than in 2012, Steiner said.

“Every team gets a bye, and so we got our bye the first week, which makes it tough because all the other teams will have a game ahead of us,” Steiner said.

The first home games for the Carlinville JFL teams are Saturday, Aug. 24, when Hillsboro visits.
