Finance committee endorses proposed bike trail
By Rick Wade
The city council finance committee voted unanimously Jan. 14 to recommend that the city become the sponsoring agency, with no financial obligation at this point, for a bike trail from Loveless Park to Beaver Dam State Park being proposed by Carlinville Winning Communities.
CWC member Greg Boente told the committee a sponsoring agency was needed in order to apply for grants for construction of the bike trail.
The question will be put on the agenda for the Jan. 21 city council meeting.
Police pension payment
According to city clerk Dena Boston, Alice Stratton, secretary of the Police Pension Board, provided the totals from the State of Illinois that the city owes the pension fund: $165,966.15. Of that amount, the city has already paid $137,184.99 from the tax levy; $28,781.16 remains.
The committee voted unanimously to pay the remainder.
The Finance Committee voted to recommend the city pay its annual membership dues to Macoupin Economic Development Partnership of $1 per individual within the city limits, bringing the total to $5,917.
The committee approved a donation of $250 to the Carlinville Area Hospital Association Trust Fund.
Alderman Jan Best said a newly created tourism committee is requesting some “seed” money be budgeted for promoting tourism in Carlinville with signs, rack cards, brochures and fliers. Best said the tourism committee also requested a waiver of the sign zoning fee for placing historical signs on local buildings.
The tourism committee was created by the Carlinville Area Chamber of Commerce.
The finance committee approved the waiver of the sign fee.
Best was directed to bring proposed budget figures back to the finance committee for consideration.
