Fenton Family Chiropractic provides variety of services

CARLINVILLE (Dec. 21, 2017) – For Stephen M. Fenton, owner of Fenton Family Chiropractic, being a chiropractor has been his goal since he was a child.

“My mother worked for a chiropractor when I was going through middle school and high school, here in town,” said Fenton. “His name was Damon Walton. Ever since then, I just knew I wanted to be a chiropractor. I went to him for years and just kind of fell in love with what he was doing, and here I am.”

Fenton, a Carlinville High School graduate, attended Blackburn College for three years to get his prerequisites before transferring to Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis. He purchased the practice in July 2012 from Robert Brown. Asked why he decided to do so, he said, “I wanted to stay home.” He and his wife, Kristy (Bates) Fenton, started dating in high school and have been together ever since. “We just knew that we wanted to come back and have our family here.” They have a daughter and two sons (one deceased) and are expecting their fourth child in April.

According to Fenton, his facility is fairly standard. “We take care of all ages, from infants all the way up to elderly,” he said, noting his youngest patient was two weeks old. “We do nice, easy chiropractic adjustments just to kind of balance the entire body and try to make people healthy overall. We do rehab exercises and stuff like that as well, but we try to focus on the well-being of the body.” They also have tracking and decompression tables and do physicals for the Illinois Department of Transportation, drug testing for local trucking companies, cold laser therapy and digital X-rays.

“The best thing about our business is that we’re young, so we’re going to be here for a long time,” Fenton said. “We’re very good at working with all other health professionals. We want to keep an open relationship with the medical doctors here in town, and the hospital, and the physical therapists.”

Currently, the office is staffed only by Fenton and his office manager. Citing his location on the square as ideal, Fenton said he does not have any immediate plans to relocate or expand. “The location is great — I can’t beat it — so it’s hard to get off of the square because everyone travels the square.”

Fenton’s favorite part of his job is simply interacting with his clients face-to-face. “I love just meeting everybody,” he said. “It’s fun to have one-on-one conversations with people in here, knowing that they are getting some benefit from me.”

Though his practice does have a Facebook page, Fenton has no intention of creating a website. “In this day and age, I know everything’s technological, but I would rather meet someone out on the street than have them look at my website,” he said.
