Beulah (Brown) Eldred will celebrate her 106th birthday on May 9.
She was born in Chesterfield in 1911, the only child of James and Sadina (Wilton) Brown. In 1934, she married Myron “Tug” Eldred. They lived on her family farm and then in their home in Chesterfield for more than 70 years. He passed away in 1992.
Mrs. Eldred worked for the phone company in Chesterfield as an operator until 1973, when party lines were eliminated and technology led to the close of the office. She was very active in Eastern Star, having served in every leadership capacity at some time. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and played the piano at Chesterfield United Church. She was always ready to take neighbors to the store, mow their yards or help out in any way she could. When she moved to Carlinville in 1999, she began attending Carlinville United Methodist Church.
Since 2009, her home has been at Heritage Manor, where she has taken part in all the activities offered whenever she can.
