Edward Ralph “Ed” Greer
Edward Ralph “Ed” Greer, 83, of Gillespie, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013, at 8:10 p.m., at his home. He was born Dec. 8, 1929, in St. Louis to David and Gussie Walker Greer. He married Patricia Cooke Dec. 22, 1951, in St. Louis. She preceded him in death May 5, 2013.
Also preceding him in death were one daughter, Kathleen Barnhart; one granddaughter, Melissa Barnhart; one son-in-law, William Barnhart; two brothers, Art Greer and David Greer; and three sisters, Aileen Hendricks, Marie “Polly” Loesch and Agnes Greer.
Ed worked for Hager Hinge in St. Louis with many years of service as a laborer. He served in the United States Navy Reserves for 15 years. He enjoyed being at the lake, bowling, golfing and playing and watching all types of sports.
Surviving are one granddaughter, Shelly (Stephen) Preston, of Granite City; four great-grandchildren, Ashley, Dylan, Devin and Makenzie; one great-grandson, Andrew; one sister, Ginny Wedle, of St. Louis; and other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, June 7, 2013, from 10-11 a.m., at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 7, 2013, at 11a.m., also at Irwin Chapel with the Rev. Charles West officiating.
Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.
