Cross country boys heading for state
Carlinville boys cross country team has qualified for the IHSA state finals meet this Saturday at Detweiler Park in Peoria.
The Cavies finished fourth as a team at the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional on Saturday. The top five teams and seven individuals not on the top five teams advance to state.
Robinson was the sectional team champions, finishing with 106 points, seven points less than St. Joeseph-Ogden (113). Lawrenceville was third at 139 points, followed by the Cavaliers at 158 points and St. Thomas More at 161.
Logan Halll of Arthur-Lovington was the overall sectional winner in a time of 15:20.
Carlinville had five of the top 45 times of the meet, led by a trio of Cavies just four seconds apart.
Samuel Mock edged Bailey Lippold, both at 17:11, for 26th and 27th place, while Jason Landon finished in 28th place at 17:15.
Charles Helton IV finished 32nd at 17:23; Grayson Armour 45th at 17:36; Cale Williams 72nd at 18:21; and Briley Roper 99th at 19:05.
Among individuals punching their ticket to Peoria included Halll, Tyler Pasley of Shelbyville 15:32; Alex Helmuth of Monticello 15:40; Trey Houmes of Hoopeston Area 15:49; Kort McClellan of Cumberland 15:52; Jackson Stewart of St. Teresa 15:56; Ryan Skowronski of Shelbyville 16:00 and Garrett Dixon of Monticello at 16:05.
Carlinville’s girls team competed hard but came up short in an attempt to qualify the team or any individuals for the state meet.
Carlinville finished ninth with 241 points. The top five teams were St. Joe Ogden (73); Tolono Unity (93); Monticello (117); Litchfield (149) and Champaign St. Thomas More and Shelbyville tied for fifth at 194.
Anna Sophia Keller of St. Anthony was the overall winner, clocking in at 17:22.
For the Cavaliers, Rory Drew was the top finisher at 42nd overall, finishing at 21:07. Stasia Nejmanowski was 43rd at 21:10; Molly Lewis 50th at 21:24; Patty Walch 52nd at 21:27; Mackenzie Harris 54th at 21:31; Rachel Olroyd 100th at 23:27 and Skylar Nickel 101st at 23:32.
Class 1A state boys meet will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Detweiler Park in Peoria.
