Cross country boys conference champs at meet
The Carlinville cross-country teams are preparing for Saturday’s IHSA Carlinville Regional with a pair of meets within three days.
On Saturday, the teams competed at the Peoria Heights Patriot Invitational at Detweiler Park in Peoria, site of the state meet in November.
Both Carlinville teams finished seventh. The girls competed among 36 schools, and there were 44 boys teams.
St. Joesph Ogden finished with five of the top 20 runners and won the female meet with 68 points, followed by Liberty at 125; Tolono Unity at 135; Monticello 168; Williamsville 188; Shelbyville 273 and Carlinville 282.
Winner of the race was South Wilmington’s Daly Galloway at 17:37.
Carlinville’s Rory Drew, a freshman, finished 53rd at 20:28, with Stasia Nejmanowski at 54th place in a time of 20:34.
Mackenzie Harris was 64th at 20:54; Molly Lewis 66th at 20:57; Patty Walch 91st at 21:43; Skylar Nickel 115th at 22:09; along with Rachel Olroyd 153rd at 22:58. There were 279 total runners.
Elmwood-Brimfield had the boys team best score of 164, followed by St. Joseph-Ogden 179; Robinson 180; Lawrenceville 199; Athens 207; Illini West 207 and Carlinville 262.
The race winner was Wyatt Mcintyre of Athens at 14:53.
Samuel Mock was the Cavies leading runner, finishing 30th at 16:39. Jason Landon was 51st at 16:57; Grayson Armour 60th at 17:10; Charles Helton IV 64th at 17:14; Bailey Lippold 77th at 17:26; Briley Roper 129th at 18:08; and Cale Williams 165th at 18:36. There were 323 runners in this race.
The Brighton Park hosted the South Central Conference meet.
Carlinville won the boys meet, with 22 points, led by six of the top nine times.
Mock finished second; Lippold third; Helton fourth; Armour fifth; Roper eighth and Williams ninth.
The Cavies had 22 points. Staunton was second with 79 points, followed by Southwestern 81; Roxana 91; Greenville 126 and Litchfield 131.
On the girls side, the Cavaliers were second as a team with 45 points. Litchfield won with 22 points. Roxana was third at 74; Staunton 108 and Southwestern 125.
Drew finished eighth overall; Nejmanowski ninth and Harris 10th.
Regionals at Loveless Park on Saturday begin at 10 a.m. with the girls race, followed by the boys race at around 11 a.m. Participating schools include the following: Argenta-Oreana, Arthur-Lovington, Bement (boys only), Clinton, Cowden Herrick, Decatur St. Teresa, Litchfield, Maroa-Forsyth, Moweaqua Central A&M; Neoga, Pana, Piasa Southwestern, Shelbyville, Staunton, Sullivan.
