Courthouse open house Saturday
CARLINVILLE (Nov. 30, 2017) – Macoupin County’s “Million Dollar Courthouse” will be open to the public during an open house from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2. Courthouse Christmas decorating volunteers and the Carlinville Tourism Committee are hosting the event. Admission will be by donation to the Courthouse Renovation Fund, which will go toward a pictorial history of the courthouse, to be displayed through the halls.
Musical performances will be held in the main courtroom, which will be decorated in holly and bows. The Federated Church Senior Choir of Carlinville, directed by Jane Scott, will perform at 6:30 p.m., followed by Gillespie High School Choir members Chance Reiniesch and Juliann Hendricks singing at 7 p.m. and musical group Seven Thirty to Eight (composed of Carlinville High School/Middle School students Dane Rosentreter, Aidan Tosh, Cameron Strubbe and guest drummer Gavin Van Alstine) at 7:30 p.m.
In addition, courthouse tours will be offered every 30 minutes from 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 2; tours cost $5 per person, with children under age 12 getting in free. For $8, attendees can tour both the courthouse and a Sears Home.
The courthouse will also be open from 6-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, and Thursday, Dec. 7, for the public to view the decorations.
Those who are unable to attend but would like to help fund the pictorial history display may make donations directly to the Macoupin County Community Foundation (MCCF). Checks should be made out to MCCF (with “courthouse history” on the memo line) and mailed to Macoupin County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 45, Carlinville, IL 62626.
