Lawsuits

Pekin Insurance Company, as subrogee of Betty Phelps, filed a complaint July 11 against Jones Chiropractic and Physical Therapy, LTD, seeking $262,559.65 for damages sustained to the Phelps property as the result of a fire that occurred June 14, 2014, on the Jones property, plus costs and attorney’s fees.

Honey Point Township Road District filed a complaint July 13 against Dakota Access LLC, Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland and Precision Pipeline LLC, seeking $1,181,635 for damages done to roadways and culverts during the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline project, plus costs of the suit, reasonable attorney’s fees and pre-judgment interest.

National Surety Corporation filed a complaint July 16 against Prairieland Construction Inc., Peter Libbra Jr. and Linda Libbra, seeking the registration of a consent judgment entered Aug. 23, 2005, by the United States District Court, Eastern District of Missouri, as the defendants are now residents of Macoupin County.

Heritage Manor – Carlinville LLC, d.b.a. Heritage Health, filed a complaint July 12 against Charles A. Green and Jennifer Bagnell, seeking $34,107.30 unpaid for nursing home services, plus interest, attorney’s fees and costs of the suit.

Brian T. and Deborah K. Zilm filed a complaint in forcible entry and detainer July 13 against Alana and Charlotte Westenberg, seeking possession of property in Carlinville, $600 rent, damages and cleaning fees not to exceed $10,000, and costs of the suit.

Alan Investments III, LLC, filed a complaint in forcible entry and detainer against Bob Louis McAllister and unknown occupants, if any, seeking possession of property in Girard and rent/damages totaling $2,596.

Deborah J. Borre filed a complaint in forcible entry and detainer July 16 against Ray Jones and unknown occupants, seeking possession of property in Carlinville and $1,500 for rent and late fees.

Maco Management Company Inc. filed a complaint in forcible entry and detainer July 16 against Elizabeth Mitchell, seeking possession of property in Brighton, unpaid rent, attorney’s fees and costs.

Felonies

Aaron C. Edwards, 24, Nilwood, has been charged with unlawful failure to register as a sex offender in connection with a May 26 incident in which he allegedly failed to complete his registration with the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department.

Stephen E. Shoup, 37, Birch Tree, Mo., has been charged with unlawful possession of less than five grams of a substance containing meth in connection with a June 11 incident.

Jeffrey K. Wright, 45, Wood River, has been charged with driving while license revoked in connection with a June 1 incident in which he allegedly drove a 1998 Chevrolet truck on Bishop Drive at Lake Road near Gillespie.

Nita R. Taylor, 49, Jerseyville, has been charged with unlawful possession of less than five grams of meth in connection with a July 12 incident.

Misdemeanors

Michael D. Elkins, 46, Jacksonville, has been charged with deceptive practices in connection with June 2 and 6 incidents in which he allegedly delivered checks for $74.49 to Sullivan Drugs, knowing his bank would not honor the drafts.

Kevin A. Stone, 53, Virden, has been charged with deceptive practices in connection with a Dec. 15, 2017, incident in which he allegedly delivered a check for $23.88 to Sav-Mor Pharmacy, knowing his bank would not honor the draft.

Bradley E. Smith, 55, Bunker Hill, has been charged with deceptive practices in connection with an April 19 incident in which he allegedly delivered a check for $20.57 to Bunker Hill Short Stop, knowing his bank would not honor the draft.

John E. Miller, 41, Gillespie, has been charged with violation of an order of protection in connection with a July 9 incident in which he allegedly contacted a protected party by calling the person’s cellular telephone.

Stacey L. Manley, 40, Staunton, has been charged with two counts of escape in connection with June 8 and June 24 incidents in which she allegedly failed to report to Macoupin County Jail when ordered to do so.

James D. Sloan, 44, Brighton, has been charged with disorderly conduct in connection with a July 9 incident in which he allegedly yelled at an individual, threw items from the individual’s car to the ground and would not let the individual use the individual’s phone.

Marlena J. Wieseman, 40, Lake Kaho, ha been charged with battery in connection with a July 11 incident in which she allegedly struck an individual in the face with a closed fist.

John W. Wasielewicz, 39, Staunton, has been charged with battery in connection with a July 7 incident in which he allegedly spit on an individual’s face.

Allen M. McMillen, 28, Eagarville, has been charged with criminal trespass to real property in connection with a July 3 incident in which he allegedly entered upon an individual’s land after receiving prior notice that entry upon the property was forbidden.

Kevin A. Smith, 27, Fenton, Mo., has been charged with unlawful display of registration plate in connection with a June 28 incident in which he allegedly displayed on a vehicle a license plate not authorized by law to be displayed on the vehicle.

Michelle A. Meyers, 42, Caseyville, has been charged with unlawful display of registration in connection with a June 29 incident in which she allegedly displayed a vehicle registration plate registered to a truck on a 2008 white Mercedes-Benz.

James K. Gwinn, 36, Carlinville, has been charged with domestic battery in connection with a July 13 incident in which he allegedly shoved an individual to the ground and caused redness and bruising on the individual’s right forearm.

Kelsey L. Henke, 27, Staunton, has been charged with battery in connection with a July 12 incident in which she allegedly punched an individual in the face.

DUIs

Julie J. Woods, 41, Bunker Hill, has been charged with driving under the influence and operating a vehicle with expired registration plates or sticker in connection with a July 2 incident in which she allegedly drove a blue 2005 Hummer on North Washington at West Wilbur, Bunker Hill.

Cody L. Cameron, 22, Chesterfield, has been charged with two counts of driving under the influence and one count of driving 11-14 mph above the limit (69 mph in a 55 mph zone) in connection with a July 6 incident in which he allegedly drove a black 2003 Ford truck on Route 111 north of Chesterfield.
