Lawsuits

Riya Britenstine, as natural mother of James Paul Cole, a minor, filed a petition for approval of minor settlement against Richard Cotterman in connection with a March 6, 2017, incident in which Cole was allegedly attacked by Cotterman’s dogs. Britenstine reached an agreement with Safeco Insurance Company of Illinois to settle any and all claims arising out of the incident, and the parties have agreed to compromise for the consideration of $50,000, to be paid into an annuity wherein periodic payments will be made to Cole, as well as payment of $5,000 cash upfront to Britenstine for Cole’s benefit. Britenstine seeks a judgment and order approving the minor settlement.

Reno Farms Inc. filed a complaint in forcible entry and detainer Oct. 23 against Jerry Miller, seeking possession of property in Carlinville, $1,800 rent plus any other rent coming due during the pendency of the lawsuit, plus water charges for two months and court costs.

Phoenix Limited Partnership filed a complaint Oct. 23 against Wendy and Lacey Koke, seeking $25,945.39 unpaid on an office lease, plus court costs and reasonable attorney’s fees.

Home Options Company filed a complaint for eviction Oct. 29 against Jordan Trimm and Kourtney Claro, seeking possession of property in Benld and $1,240 rent.

Felonies

Darrell T. Pocklington, 28, Hettick, has been charged with escape in connection with an Oct. 12 incident in which he allegedly failed to report for periodic imprisonment at Macoupin County Jail.

Derek J. Bultema, 33, Gillespie, has been charged with unlawful possession of less than five grams of a substance containing meth in connection with an Oct. 20 incident.

Michael S. Hillis, 50, Greenfield, has been charged with unlawful possession of less than five grams of a substance containing meth in connection with an Aug. 11 incident.

Larena L. Conlee, 36, Greenfield, has been charged with unlawful possession of less than five grams of a substance containing meth in connection with an Aug. 11 incident.

Kenneth D. Bertrand, 47, Trenton, has been charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution in connection with a July 22 incident in which he allegedly brought clonazepam into Macoupin County Jail.

Michael P. Dufrain, 53, Staunton, has been charged with theft in connection with an Oct. 7 incident in which he allegedly exerted unauthorized control over an individual’s pontoon boat valued at more than $500 but less than $10,000.

Brenden D. Buzick, 27, Staunton, has been charged with possession of a prescription form in connection with an Oct. 7 incident in which he allegedly possessed a counterfeit prescription form.

Lonnie W. Barger, now 37, Gillespie, has been charged with unlawful possession of more than five grams but less than 15 grams of a substance containing meth in connection with an Aug. 2 incident.

Leslie R. Guthrie, 44, Girard, has been charged with unlawful possession of less than five grams of a substance containing meth in connection with an Aug. 2 incident.

Jamey P. Leonard, 28, Godfrey, has been charged with unlawful possession of more than 30 grams but less than 500 grams of a substance containing cannabis with the intent to deliver, as well as unlawful possession of more than 100 grams but less than 500 grams of cannabis in connection with an Oct. 25 incident.

Jeremy W. Rodger, 26, Gillespie, has been charged with unlawful possession of less than five grams of a substance containing meth in connection with an Aug. 20 incident.

Misdemeanors

Melissa J. Hughes, 43, Gillespie, has been charged with domestic battery in connection with a May 30 incident in which she allegedly clawed an individual’s back with her fingernails.
