County to discuss budget at Aug. 26 meeting

By Daniel Winningham
Macoupin County Board Chairman Mark Dragovich encouraged questions on the proposed 2013-14 fiscal year budget at an Aug. 13 meeting.

Much of the discussion focused on whether the county will finish the current year with a balanced budget.

Board member Mike Tranter asked Springer if there’s a projection for the general fund in the 2012-13 fiscal year that ends Aug. 31.

“We really don’t know at this point,” Springer said. “It’s hard to tell what we’re going to get in from the state, it really is the main thing, as far as our sales taxes, our income taxes, and when we’ll get a distribution … We feel like it’s going to be close as to whether we’re going to be in the red or in the black.”

Special meeting set for Aug. 26
The county board will convene Monday, Aug. 26, at 6 p.m. in a special session to discuss the 2013-14 fiscal year budget. The new fiscal year officially starts Sept. 1.

In addition to discussion and likely approval of the 2013-14 fiscal year budget, the board will also take up remaining bills from the month of August.

At the request of Dragovich, board members are to receive compensation for a committee meeting and not a regular board meeting if they attend Aug. 26.

Special fund appropriations
Three resolutions that made supplemental appropriations to the 2012-13 budget were adopted by the board Aug. 13.
