Coco Bongo embraces holiday season

CARLINVILLE (Nov. 30, 2017) – Coco Bongo Salon, located on the corner of West Main and North West streets, is a full service hair salon. It offers waxing, ear piercings, and a variety of hair coloring techniques. The salon will also travel to provide bridal services including hair and makeup.

Coco Bongo was opened in March 2010 by co-owners Shawn Buhl and Ashlee Miller. The pair had previously worked together in a separate salon.

“We went to high school together and worked together and decided to branch out,” said Miller.

The salon’s unique name has an equally intriguing origin. “Shawn came up with that,” said Miller. “That was a club in Mexico.”

“It was such a neat atmosphere,” said Buhl. “When me and my good friend walked out of there, I said ‘If I ever have my own a hair salon, I would like it to be named Coco Bongo.’”

In addition to Buhl and Miller, the salon employs three other trained and experienced beauticians: Lori Redfern, Ashleigh Ward and newcomer Hannah Cox. The hours of the salon are flexible; according to Miller, “Our clients make our schedule.”

The inside of Coco Bongo is as unique and lively as its name might suggest. Currently the decor embraces the Christmas spirit with a variety of colorful ornaments and lights of all varieties hanging from the walls and ceiling; even a small Christmas tree can be seen lit and decorated near one of the beauty stations.

“We try to have a very upbeat environment,” said Buhl.

“A fun atmosphere,” added Miller.

On Thursday, Nov. 30, the salon is hosting a Christmas party as a thank you for its clients, and all are welcome to attend. There will be specials, giveaways and do-it-yourself pamper stations, as well as cocktails and appetizers.

“Come check us out,” said Miller.
