CHS softball defeats Vandalia, 16-7

Carlinville High School’s varsity softball team collected 11 hits and scored two or more runs in four innings on its way to a 16-7 win at Vandalia April 30.

The Cavaliers improved to 13-6 with the road victory.

CHS went ahead 2-0 in the top of the first, led 7-2 after two innings, 8-5 after three innings, 12-5 after five innings and added four more tallies in the top of the seventh to finish up with 16 runs.

Vandalia got two in the first, three in the third and two in the sixth. The Vandals committed six errors in the home loss.

Baylee Hughes, Alex Mullink and Brooke Jamieson each had two hits in five at-bats. Jamieson drove in three runs.

Starr scored a team-high three runs. Kristen Bates, Hughes, Mullink each drove in two runs.

Jade McFarland went four innings for CHS. Hughes pitched three innings in relief.

Senior Night vs. Pana
Carlinville High School will take on Pana High School Thursday, May 9, at 4:30 p.m. at Loveless Park. Seniors will be recognized with their parents prior to the first pitch.

CHS also faces Gillespie in a rescheduled game Friday, May 10, at Loveless Park. The Cavaliers begin the postseason May 14 in the North Mac regional.

East Alton defeats Carlinville
The host Oilers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh and earned a 2-1 win over the Cavaliers May 1.

CHS was limited to just one hit in the road loss. Baylee Hughes took the loss for the Cavaliers.

Jade McFarland had the only hit of the game for Carlinville. The Cavaliers pushed across a single run in the top of the third inning but the 1-0 lead wouldn’t hold up as East Alton rallied for the home victory.

The Oilers out-hit Carlinville 7-1. Both teams committed one error in the contest.
