The Shells led 1-0 after getting a run in the top of the first, then were in front 4-0 after three runs in the fifth. CHS responded with three runs of its own to get within 4-3. However, Roxana put up a three-spot in the top of the seventh to give it a little more breathing room.
The Cavaliers finished with just six hits in the game. Jade McFarland was the only player with multiple hits as she was 2-4.
Kristen Bates contributed a one-out single in the first but was stranded on second base. McFarland sent a liner into center for a two-out single in the second inning but was left on base. Ashley Starr sent a solid single into center with one out in the third inning but was forced at second on a fielder’s choice to the pitcher by Bates, who beat out the relay throw to first base from the shortstop to avoid the double play.
Pitcher Baylee Hughes took the loss for CHS.
Carlinville dropped to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in the South Central Conference. Roxana is now 5-7 overall on the season.

Cavaliers defeat Greenfield
Carlinville got multiple runs in the first, third and fourth innings on its way to an 8-2 home win over Greenfield April 20 at Loveless Park.
The Cavaliers led 2-0 after the first inning. After the visiting Tigers tallied two runs in the top of the second to make it 2-2, CHS took the lead for good with four runs in the third to go on top 6-2.
Carlinville concluded its scoring with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Ariel Dohm and Hughes both contributed doubles in the home win. Dohm drove in two runs with a double while Hughes had three RBIs in going 2-4 in the game. Hughes pitched for CHS, allowing just three hits in the contest.
