CHS baseball defeats Serena, falls to Red Bud

Carlinville High School’s varsity baseball team improved its overall record to 1-1 with an 11-3 victory over Serena High School March 16 at Lenz Field in Jacksonville.

Hurler Joeb Easterday went five innings, struck out five and walked two. He allowed three earned runs on four hits to earn the win.

Ross Albert led the way offensively with three hits in four at-bats. He had two doubles, scored two runs, stole a base and drove in a run. Marcus Herschelman contributed a hit in four at-bats and scored two runs. Eric Pingolt was 2-4 with two RBIs and two runs.

Easterday went 2-2 at the plate with two walks and drove in a run.

Cavaliers open with loss
CHS began its 2013 season with a 6-2 loss to Red Bud High School.

Kris Emmons got the start for Carlinville. He lasted 5 1-3 innings, struck out four and walked three batters. Emmons allowed four earned runs on 11 hits.

For CHS, Herchelman went 2-4 with a double and run scored. Albert contributed one hit in four at-bats and drove in a run.

Home opener March 21
CHS was scheduled to take on Auburn High School March 18. However, that contest has been canceled. The Cavaliers had a game at Morrisonville March 19.

The team also travels to Greenfield March 20 and is supposed to hold its home opener Thursday, March 21, against Nokomis at 4:30 p.m.
