Members of Carlinville’s Finance Committee met for their regular monthly meeting Aug. 14, during which time approval was given to the minutes of the previous meeting.

Approval of the bills was given, pending Chairman Sarah Oswald checking on the amount that was actually taken on out of the general fund compared to what was on the report.

In a discussion about membership in Carlinville’s Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Deanna Demuzio reported that the Chamber approved a motion to waive the city of Carlinville’s $500 membership fee in perpetuity.

“It is the opinion of the Chamber board that they would like to waive that $500 and give the city membership because of the fact that we have been good partners with the Chamber and we have been very helpful in all the events the Chamber puts on, they would like to waive that $500,” said Demuzio.

“We will be members in good standing?” asked Councilman Doug Downey.

“We will be members in good standing and it will be forever,” replied Demuzio, noting she was told it was for all the things the city has done to help the Chamber over the years and the city is considered a charter member of the Chamber.

“We need to say thank you very much to the Chamber,” said Oswald.

Oswald reported that the city’s employee appreciation dinner has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 9, at The Fairway restaurant. The dinner was budgeted at $1,500. Downey reported that half of the cost will be paid by Woodard and Curran.

During the Aug. 15 Public Works Committee meeting, members approved the minutes of the previous meeting and authorized payment of the bills.

No other items were on the agenda for discussion.
